1. | Robert Bailey died 1818, , Roane, Tennessee. Notes:
Of Harford County, Maryland.
On 14 August 1797 John North and wife Catharina of Juniata Township, Cumberland
County, Pennsylvania, conveyed to Robert McTeer of Allen Township and Robert
Bailey of Hartford (sic) County, Maryland, three tracts in Juniata, formerly
Rye Township, 338 acres 28 perches on the south side of the Juniata River,
36.25 acres west of the Juniata at the mouth of Raccoon Creek, and 154 acres
128 perches also in Juniata Township. Witnesses: Fredrick Went, Fredrick
Harter. Acknowledged 14 August 1797. Recorded 1 May 1798.
In the early 1800s the Baileys moved to Post Oak Springs, Tennessee, once an
important junction on the stage road from South West Point (Kingston,
Tennessee) to Nashville.
The name of a Robert Bailey does indeed appear on an 1801 tax list of Blount
County, Captain Kelley's Company. But this man owned no land and was not a
near neighbor to any of the McTeers; so it is impossible to realistically
assert that he was Elizabeths husband. There are no deeds for this Robert
Bailey recorded in Blount County.
According to the Tax Lists of Roane County, 1814-1821 Robert Bailey had 50
acres on Caney Creek in Captain Byrd's Company; he was listed as owner in 1817
and 1818, with Elizabeth named as owner thereafter.
