    Notes:

    John had remained in Ulster Province in the far north of Ireland when his parents emigrated to America. In about 1733, in Coleraine, County Londonderry, John married Rebekah Clark who had been born in that area in about 1720. With their then three young children, John and Rebekah also emigrated to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, purportedly aboard the "VillageBelle", arriving about 1737. They colonized land in Martic Township in southern Lancaster County just a few miles northwest of John's parents.

    In about 1765, John and some of his older sons, along with other Scotish-Irish neighbors, traveled south to North Carolina and bought acreage in old Mecklenburg County (northwest of the present-day city of Charlotte). An abstract, dated 13 May 1765, attesting to the purchase by John Baldrige of the land along Indian Creek and the Catawba River can be found in Tyron-Lincoln County Deeds, Volume 1, Pages 670-671. Three other deeds involving similar purchases or rentals of land in that area by John Baldrige appear on pages 155-159 of Volume 4, Mecklenburg County,North Carolina, Deed Abstracts.

    John returned to Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, only to die there in late July 1766 before he could relocate his family to North Carolina. John Baldrige's Last Will and Testament, dated July 15, 1766 and filed for probate on July 31, 1766, was recorded in Will Book "B", Volume 1,Page 448, Official Records of Lancaster County. It is generally considered that John Baldrige was buried in the cemetery of the Chestnut Level Presbyterian Church, although there is no known tombstone there bearing his name.

    John married Rebecca Clark 1733, Coleraine, Ulster, Ireland.     Daniel Baldridge, (now spelled with the second "d") was among those older sons of John and Rebekah who migrated to North Carolina in about 1770.There is no known record bearing the name of his wife whom he married either shortly before leaving Lancaster County or relatively soon after arriving in Orange County, North Carolina. Daniel served with the North Carolina Continental Line during the Revolutionary War and was named in the First Census of the United States in 1790.

    In about 1810, Daniel migrated from North Carolina to middle Tennessee, and about a decade later, on to Weakley County in northwest Tennessee, where he settled on land exchanged for the second of two land warrants that he received for his service in the Revolutionary War. He died in Weakley County in about 1828. The grave site of Daniel Baldridge is now prominently preserved in the "Y" formed by the Pair Road exit ramp and the south (west) bound traffic lanes of a recently constructed highway bypass approximately two miles southeast of the city of Martin, Tennessee.

    I, John Baldridge, being far advanced in life, but of sound mind & memory.
    I allow all lawful debts and funeral expenses be paid. I give unto my wife
    Sarah Baldridge the land I now live on, my negro Nance, one horse, two cows
    and calves, my hogs and sheep, and farming tools, household furniture, all
    crops during her natural life or widowhood. "Nance to take care of my silly
    daughter during her natural life that is Polly Clarke." I also allow my
    wife the property and negro girl Harriett that I received from her when we
    married. I allow my mill to be rented and my wife to receive the profits to
    assist in supporting the family. The balance of my property not herein
    mentioned to be sold and divided as follows: $50 to Little Brittain Church.
    I give my son-in-law William McGrove and my daughter Nancy, his wife, $10,
    they having receive their full share. I give to my dau. Rebecca and her son
    Samuel Baldridge, all my mechanical tools, except my smith tools. I give to
    my son-in-law William Porter, & my dau. Peggy, his wife, $500. I give to
    the children of my dau. Betsy, deceased and former wife of Thomas Smart,
    $500. At the decease of my wife I allow my plantation to be sold and at the
    death of my silly daughter, negro Nance and her issue, if any, to be sold,
    and the money divided as follows. Rebecca and her son Samuel one share,
    William Porter and his wife Peggy one share, the children of my dau. Betsy
    one share, my son John Baldridge one share. I give to the heirs of my son
    Doranton Baldridge one share. To my son William Baldridge one share. My son
