Louis II King Of Germany is often regarded as the founder of the German
kingdom. After the death of his father, Louis I, in 1840, he joined with one
brother, Charles the Bald, to fight another, Lothair I, for control of the
empire. The Treaty of Verdun in 843 gave Louis all of Germany east of the
Rhine River.
