John Walter Sloan

Notes:

On 23 March 1827, Walter Sloan was appointed guardian of his four minor
children, all under 14 years, vis. James, Eliza, Jane and Samuel. Because
Walter's late wife Margaret was dead, these her children as legatees under the
will of their late grandfather Samuel Mateer deceased were "entitled to receive
a considerable sum of money." Bond was for $500 with John Msogrove and John
Donalson as sureties.

Before his death William L. Peart had contracted to sell part of his land,
including the mills to his brother-in-law, Walter Sloan, but there was much
delay in completing the transaction; suit was brought against Robert E. Brown,
Administrator of Peart's estate and on 3 January 1849 subpoenas were issued for
all of the heirs.

For a time after the death of William L. Peart, his brother-in-law, Walter
Sloan owned and operated the mills which had belonged to the Peart family, at a
location then known as Sloan's Mills.

There is no estate recorded at Kittanning for Walter Sloan, and this family is
reported to have removed to Clarion County, Pennsylvania.
