    John Clabaugh and his family were living in the Great (Big) Pipe Creek area of Carroll County Maryland in 1760, as John served as overseer of the roads from 1760 to 1762.

    John Clabaugh's name appeared on the roll of Captain John Carmack's company inNovember of 1775. John was listed as a seargeant. It is possible that John served in the Revolutionary War. John took the Oath of Allegience in 1777 in Frederick County.

    John Clabaugh is not listed in the 1790 Maryland Census, but the exact date of his death is not known.

    Notes:

    John Clabaugh signed the Oath of Fidelity in 1777 in Montgomery County, but no record of John serving in the Revolutionary War has been found. Also taking the Oath of Allegience was Charles Clabaough.

    John Clabaugh is listed in the 1790 Maryland Census. John and four males under the age of sixteen are listed with four females, one of them being Margaret. In the 1796 presidential election Charles, John and Jacob Clabaugh are listed on the poll. John and his family are also listed in the 1800 Maryland census.

    Sometime after 1800 John and his brother Charles Clabaugh and two of John's brothers in-law, Samuel and James Ferguson headed for Tennessee.

    On February 16, 1807, John Clabaugh Jr. had 126 acres on Middle Creek surveyed. On February 24, 1807, brother Charles had 219 acres surveyed on Middle Creek. On September 29, 1808 John Clabaugh's patent was issued by Governor John Sevier and Charles's patent was issued the next day.

    John Clabaugh Jr. signed a petition to the Tennessee General Assembly in 1813. This is the last record found.

  2. 3.  Charles Clabaugh Descendancy chart to this point (1.John1) was born Abt 1755, Frederick County, Maryland.

    Notes:

    Charles Clabaugh may have been named after a possible Charles Hedges. No
    record has been found of Charles Clabough service in the Revolutionary War,
    however, in 1778 he took the oath of Fidelity required by all men ages eighteen
    and over.

    The Frederick County Federal Census confirms that there was one son living with
    them in 1790.

    After 1800, Charles and his brother, John Clabough made the trek to East
    Tennessee where they settled on Middle Creek in Sevier County, Tennessee.
    Charles received his patent to 219 acres on September 30, 1808. The Sevier
    County Court House burned in 1856 destroying the records which would have given
    further information on Charles's later life, of which nothing further is known.

    Samuel and Elizabeth Clabaugh lived the remaining years of their lives on Middle Creek in Sevier County, Tennessee. In the 1830 Tennessee census eight children were living with them. One male age 5-10 and on e male age 15-20. Two females under 5, one female age 10-15, one female age 15-20, and two females ages 20-30. Also living near was a John Clabough, age 20-30 and Cumberland Clabough. Living in the house with Cumberland and his family is a man between the age of 70-80. In 1840 six of their children were still living with them. In Samuel Clabaugh's will, referenced in later deeds, he left an undivided interest in 109 acres to his heirs: John, Charles, and Richard H. Clabaugh.

    Notes:

    On October 8, 1813, John Clabaugh enlisted in Captain John Roper's Company of Colonel William Lillard's 2nd Regiment of East Tennessee Volunteers for three months' duty. "He would be gone for four months. With his Company, he headed southwest into Mississippi Territory under the command of Andrew Jackson. They defeated the Creek Indians in the famous battles of Talladega and Horse Shoe Bend. On February 8, 1814, John was discharged at Knoxville, Tennessee and returned home. About 1816, John and Elizabeth packed up their belongings and with their six children set out with Elizabeth's father and his large family and probably others." They moved into Alabama Territory and settled on Six Mile Creek in what is now Bibb County.

    In 1847 John Clabaugh and Elizabeth moved to East Texas to live near their eldest son Charles. In the 1850 census John and Elizabeth were living near Charles on Larrison Creek in Walker County, Texas. When the Bounty Land Act was passed in 1850 John Clabaugh filed a claim. John Clabaugh died soon after Madison County was formed. In 1855, widow Elizabeth, applied for additional land, but there is no record that she acquired the land.

    From the Records of Commissions of Officers in Tennessee Militia 1796-1815, compiled by Mrs. John Trotwood Moore, we find that William Clabough was appointed as an Ensign, Light Infantry Company of the 11th Regiment for Sevier County, Tennessee on July 8, 1808. Later, in his early thirties, as he claimed in 1852 he served in the Creek Indian War in Alexander Hill's Company, Colonel William Carrol's Regiment, Tennessee Drafted Militia. He was drafted in McMinnville, Tennessee, in October 1813 for six months duty. He was discharged at Nashville, Tennessee in June 1814. He applied for a Bounty Land Warrant on two different dates: March 30, 1852, and September 6, 1855 with the United States Government on his war of 1812 military services. It was rejected because of insufficient information.

    William and Lavina are listed in 1830 through 1850 Federal Census of Sevier County, Tennessee as Cleaubeaugh 68 and 54. William died at his homeplace.

    Notes:

    In 1800 with his father and brothers, Charles Clabough made the long trek to East Tennessee where they settled on Middle Creek in Sevier County.

    By 1819 Charles and Betsy had moved to Warren County, Tennessee with his in-laws John McGhee and James Clendenen. Charles settled near Barren Fork on Collins Creek. Here in 1820, his household included his wife, four boys and three girls. They were still living in Warren County in 1830. By 1840 son, James B., had moved to Bibb County, Alabama.

    We next find Charles Clabough in Alabama, where in Bibb County he married Jane Wallace, a neighbor of his brother, John Clabough. Charle's nephew Cumberland F. Clabough, the Justice of Peace, performed the services. Two years later, on September 29, 1845 Charles and Jane had sold Jane's farm on Six Mile Creek and moved to Missouri, where in 1850 they were living near their sons James B. and William in Dade County, Missouri.

    farm where we now live, being the farm originally owned by my Father Samuel
