VARNEY, Howard Lester - Age 76, of Flint, died Sunday, August 9, 1998 at Briarwood Manor. Funeral services will be held 1PM Wednesday, August 12, 1998 at Victory Worship Center, 1202 W. Atherton Rd., Flint, Pastor Keith Bolinger officiating. Burial in Crestwood Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held 11AM-8PM Monday and Tuesday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Flint Area Chapel, 6063 Fenton Rd, Flint. Howard was born October 25, 1921 in Oak Park, IL. He received his bachelor's degree and medical degree from the University of Iowa. Dr. Varney practiced medicine for 30 years, 14 of which were at Central Michigan University. He married Marguerite Varney on August 23, 1974 in Mt. Pleasant. Dr. Varney attended Victory Worship Center and was a member of Gideons International for 15 years. He had lived in Flint since 1994, coming from Mt. Pleasant. Surviving are: wife, Marguerite; 4 children, Robert Varney, David Varney, Lynn Majeski, Gail Westervelt; 4 step-children, William Kontyko, Gary Kontyko, Joan Kerner, Carol Yungfer; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, Robert A. Varney.
