Wednesday morning while walking into Food City East, I saw an old friend from the Stokely Van Camp era. Harold Smith retired from the maintenance dept. of the cannery about two years ago after working 40 years.
We ended up drinking some coffee at the Food City cafe and chatting, both of us were waiting to go to circuit court, but for different reasons. Bill Shults had invited me to make a photo of the ceremony before Judge Rex Henry Ogle, who swore in Bill as the new Tenn. Claims Commissioner. Harold had been called to jury duty. He said he is enjoying his retirement spending time in his garage shop and also fishing.
One of his favorite things to do is visit Alaska. Although I've known him and his wife, Nan Smith, for years I didn't know much about the Smith family. He reminded me that the Harold Smith name is quite common in Newport but all his immediate family came here from Texas.
