Marvin G. Self, 88, of Southbury, Connecticut, husband of Marilyn Eklund Self, passed away at Danbury Hospital on Wednesday July 10, 2013.
He was born in Del Rio, Tennessee on March 7, 1925, son of the late Wyley H. and Mary A. Brandon Self.
He was the father of Janice Self of Asheville, North Carolina, step-father of Janet (William) Garrow of Shelton, CT, Edward (Laurie) Meyers of Stratford, CT, and James (Trish) Meyers of Shelton, CT. Marvin is also survived by five step- grandchildren and one step great-grandchild.
He also leaves behind one sister Edith (Jack) Barrett and one brother Robert (Pat) Self, all of Del Rio.
Marvin was a World War II Navy veteran who served in Italy, Sicily, and North Africa. He worked for NASA when the original astronauts were there and worked on the National Advisory Committee for aeronautics. He also worked in the U.S. Air Force Civil Service.
He was a member of Masonry for over 50 years. Marvin was a current member of the Masonic Lodge Hiram #18 in Sandy Hook, CT and was a member of the Land of Sky Shrine Club in N.C..
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Pisgah View Memorial Park, Highway 19-23 Chandler, NC. Donations in Marvin's name may be made to the Masonic Lodge Hiram #18, P.O. Box 526, 3 Washington Avenue, Sandy Hook, CT 06482.
Arrangements are in care of All State Cremation & Funeral Care Hamden, Connecticut.
