Wilda Scott Witt, 97, Bluefield, VA, formerly of Bluefield, WV, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 19, 2006 after a short illness. She was born April 10, 1909 in Parrottsville, a daughter of George Arthur Scott and his second wife, Ida Venera Coffin. Following the deaths of both parents thirteen days apart in January, 1913, she and her younger brother were placed in Holston Home in Greeneville, now Holston Home for Children. In 1995, at the Home's centennial celebration, she spoke eloquently of her years there from 1913 to 1923. During her nearly century of living, she devoted much time and effort to several worthy causes and organizations. She was the co-founder of the first school lunch program at Brushfork School, assisted local doctors when they delivered babies, analyzed coal in a local laboratory, worked in local elections, served as Sunday School Superintendent, and was a contributing reporter for the Bluefield Daily Telegraph. Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were the following siblings: Clarence, Lawrence, Marcus, and George Scott; Zollie Scott Sisk, Ora Florence Scott Jones, Elzey Odella Scott, Ella Kate Scott Kilgore, and Ada Gertrude Scott. She was also preceded in death by her husbands: Earl Francisco, Farley Mann, and Herndon Witt; one son, Harry E. Francisco; and one grandson, John Richardson. She is survived by three children: George E. Francisco, Sr., Virginia Beach, VA: Cecile Francisco Barrett, Bluefield, VA: and Joy Francisco Buck, Tracy's Landing, MD; nine grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. Local survivors include Duay and Amber O'Neil, and the families of Larry Sane and Lisa Sane Giles. Funeral services were held Monday, May 21, at Craven-Shires Funeral Home in Bluefield, WV, with interment at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
