Mabel R. Thomas (May 11, 1918 - October 19, 2007) entered the gates of heaven to join her family that has passed before her after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s.
Mabel was a life long resident of the Reidtown Community, where she resided up until her death with her daughter, Linda Kay.
Mabel will join in heaven, her beloved husband of 50 years, Robert Murray (Doc) Thomas; mother, Grace Reese; father, Will Reese; grandparents, Mitchell (Poppa) and Glennie Hall; brother, Bill Reese; sister, Helen Williams; nephews, Billy Reese, Richard (Dick) Thomas and Gene Henry; niece, Josephine Smith; great niece, Kelly Freshour; great nephew, Steve Thomas; sister-in-law, Ina T. Freshour, Willie Mae Thomas, Joyce Thomas and Lilly Henry; brothers-in-law, Bobby Thomas, Walter Thomas, Allen Thomas, Toliver Thomas and George Henry.
Mabel is survived by her children, Charles M. Thomas (Agnes) of White Pine, Jerry N. Thomas (Martha) of Newport and Linda Kay T. Gregg (Allen) of Newport; grandchildren, Debbie Marshall (Marty) of Bybee, Steve Thomas (Missy) of Newport, Kim Gregg of Newport; step-grandchildren, Larry Gregg (Crystal) of Newport, and Allen Gregg, Jr. of California; great grandchildren, Erica Thomas, Kacie and Cadence Gregg all of Newport; sisters-in-law, Marie Thomas of Newport, Marion Thomas of White Pine, Wanda Thomas of Jefferson City, Eulala Thomas of Knoxville. She also leaves several nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and an array of special neighbors. Mabel is also survived by her special friend, Randy Hartsell and special caregivers, Eloise Etherton, Dr. Kenneth Hill and the staff at Smoky Mountain Home Health and Hospice. The family will receive friends from 12-2 pm Sunday at Manes Funeral Home Chapel, funeral services will follow at 2:00 pm, with Reverend Tom Mooty officiating. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery.
