Ricky Morris honored for community work
NEWPORT—Ricky Morris has been named a Hometown Hero by Modern Woodmen for his many hours of community service.
Morris received his honored recently during a Modern Woodmen event.
Among his many activities in service to Newport and Cocke County, Morris recently supervised the removal of 364 trees that had been heavily damaged by the 2011 tornado that struck Cocke County High School’s stadium and football ? eld. Assisted by David Veridal and jail trustees, Morris oversaw the project which was done at no cost to the school system.
He also serves as a volunteer for the CCHS football program, doing repairs and ?eld maintenance.
He works with Cocke County jail trustees doing various community projects and has a jail ministry that allows inmates to attend services at Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church.
At Lincoln Avenue Baptist, Morris leads the senior adult ministry and has been past chairman of the Beast Feast committee that provides a free community meal of wild game and traditional food.
Currently he is helping organize a 5K community race, “Run for God,” planned for December 2.
