Dorothy Sue McMillan Freeman, age 72 of Newport passed away Friday, August 9, 2013 at Turkey Creek, Medical Center. First and foremost to her was her loving family whom she truly loved. She very much enjoyed shopping with daughter Dawn, cooking for her son Bret, and the 52 wonderful years she and Dan shared. She was especially proud of her grandson Kyle and his talent for music, his graduating private High School in Louisville, and now his attending University of Kentucky where he now plays on the Rugby Team and enjoyed a special relationship with her niece, Darby Wood Hutchinson. Dorothy dedicated her life to her family by always being there for them. Her talent for decorating extended beyond her home to the Freeman Store which she decorated many times over the years. An avid reader always, she had graduated from Parrottsville High where she excelled in Basketball. She was preceded in death by her parents Clarence Dale and Dorothy Nelle McMillan. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Dan Freeman of Newport; daughter Dawn Freeman of Fort Walton Beach, Florida; son Bret Freeman of Newport; and grandson Kyle Freeman of Louisville, Kentucky; sisters Betty McMillan and Judy (Jimmy) Wright; brothers Jerry McMillan and Bill (Brenda) McMillan; her nieces and nephews include Darby Wood Hutchinson of Jefferson City, David McMillan of California, Donald Ray McMillan of Knoxville, Carson Wright of Newport; special friends Glennita and Johnny Starnes, Carole and Jack Clark; the family especially would like to acknowledge her very best friend and caregiver Yvonne Cox. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, August 11, 2013 at Manes Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ransom Hall officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12 noon to 2:00 pm Sunday prior to funeral service. Family and friends may sign the guest register online at www.manesfuneralhome.com.
