Two-car Crash
©2005 NPT PHOTO BY RICK HOOPER Three people were injured just before noon Thursday in this two-car crash on West Broadway in Newport. According to a report filed by Newport Patrolman James Weeks, a 1990 Nissan, driven by Ben Rex McGaha, 77, of 638 Woodlawn Ave., Newport, was turning left off Broadway into the White’s Food Store parking lot when it collided with a 1985 Corvette, driven by Ronald Stewart, 57, of 102 Fortune Way. Both McGaha and Stewart were taken by ambulance to Baptist Hospital of Cocke County. Rudell Ralphine McGaha, 74, a passenger in the Nissan, was pinned in the wreckage for a short time. Rescuers had to use the Jaws of Life to help extricate her from the vehicle, which was struck on the passenger’s side. She was flown by Lifestar Air Ambulance to University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, where she is listed in critical but stable condition.
