U.S. Veteran Jasper “Jack” Louis Nichols, age 87, of Del Rio, passed away, Monday, May 3, 2010 at Newport Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was a veteran of the United States Navy during WWII and proudly served on the USS Intrepid. He attended First Church of God in Del Rio as long as his health permitted. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Juanita Sue Nichols; and parents, James Harrison and Etta “Granny” Nichols; sisters, June Gilliland, and Emily Jones. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Jeff Cooper of Del Rio; son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Diana Nichols of Kyle, Texas; sister, Belle Smith of Morristown, granddaughters, Beth Cooper, Newport, Christina Fergeuson, Tacoma, WA, Andrea Nichols, Kyle, TX, Brook Nichols, Knoxville, TN, and Judy Nichols; grandson, Mark Ivarra; great grandchildren, Jacob Sizemore, Mary Katherine Klopp and Harrison Nichols. Funeral services will be held 7:00 pm, Thursday May 6, 2010 in Manes Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert Ashley and Rev. Bobby Morrison officiating. Burial will be 11:00 am Friday May 7, 2010 in Jonestown Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Thursday prior to the funeral service.
