JACKSONVILLE, FL-John Crouch Porter, age 69, passed away Saturday evening, June 16, at his home in Jacksonville, FL. Mr. Porter had been in declining health for several years.
His primary and secondary education was in the Newport and Cocke County school systems before he attended the University of Tennessee. His education was interrupted by a four-year tour of duty in the United States Air Force where he was trained in electronics, firing systems, and radar. Following his honorable discharge from the service, his special background in high-tech electronics brought him civilian employment at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, AL with RCA Corporation of America. He met and married Louise Wall in Huntsville and later moved to Jacksonville, FL where he had similar duties at Cecil Field, Jacksonville Naval Air Station. Ultimately the government assumed the support, instruction, and maintenance duties provided by RCA personnel to the Air Force and Navy, and Mr. Porter again became a government employee for the balance of his career.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Wall, and his father, Attorney John C. Porter, of Newport.
He is survived by his son, John Calhoun Porter, II, of Jacksonville, FL; son and daughter-in-law, The Reverend David Wall and Misty C. Porter, Plano, TX; daughter and son-in-law, Sam and Sara P.
