Everett Harold Parks, age 78 of Newport died Thursday, August 30, 2007 at his home after a long illness. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher for many years. He was a veteran of the Korean war, was employed by Heywood Wakefield for 25 years, Merchant & Planters Bank, First Union Bank for 10 years. He was preceded in death by his son, David; father, Roe Parks Sr.; mother, Susie Parks; brother, Roe Parks Jr.; sister, Arlone Hanshaw; bothers-in-law, Dr. Darrell Mullins, Roe Teague; mother-in-law, Nora Wood and father-in-law, Burke Wood. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Wood Parks of Newport; children, Lynn and Michele Parks of White Pine, Glenn and Chevelle Parks of Knoxville, Susan and Rick Chapman of Rogersville; former daughters-in-law, Shawna Parks of Newport, and Jean Jones of Greeneville, TN; sisters, Juanita Mullins of Erwin, TN, Marjory Teague of Newport; sister and brother-in-law, Jewelene and Jim Travis of Newport; brother-in-law, Ken Hanshaw of Dandridge; sister-in-law, Doris Parks of Parrottsville; brothers and sisters-in-law, Gordon and Marie Wood, Betty and Chunk Cotheran of Newport; grandchildren, Cody, Noah and Bailey Parks, Noelle, Ariel, and Levi Parks, Jesse and Lidia Brown, Eric and Kara Grace Chapman. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, September 1, at the Brown Funeral Home Chapel with funeral service to follow with Rev. Fred Cagle officiating. Interment will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, September 2, 2007 at Union Cemetery. Brown Funeral Home in charge.
