James D. "Jake" Bomar, age 89, of Cosby, TN. passed away at Mariner Health on Friday, April 9, 2004 He was born to Bibb Daniel and Ethel Laughinghouse Bomar, September 13, 1914, in Bell Buckle, Bedford County, TN He worked at the Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, AL during World War II, and moved to Oak Ridge, TN where he worked for Union Carbide from 1945 until his retirement in 1977. He moved to Cosby, TN in 1979 and was a charter member of Trinity Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, James Daniel; a brother Bill Pearson; a sister, Beulah Messick, all of Bell Buckle, and a grandson, James Kevin Ridley of Knoxville.
He is survived by his wife, Elsie Bomar of Cosby; brother, Thomas Bryan Bomar and his wife Peggy of Knoxville; daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Walter Geering of Knoxville; Terri and Phillip Turner of Bowling Green, KY; Jennifer and Michael Maginnis of Jasper, GA; Rita and Eugene Orick of Cosby; and Linda Glass of Knoxville; grandchildren, Lee Ridley of Knoxville, Kara and Tom Compton of Lexington, KY; Linsey and Daniel Rogers of Hendersonville, TN. and William Orick of Knoxville; and great grandson Jacob Daniel Compton. He is also survived by his loving church family and all his special friends at Mariner Health and Hospice who took such good care of him.
Serving as pallbearers will be Tom Bomar, Rick Bomar, Tom Compton, Daniel Rogers, William Orick, and Duaine Click. Honorary pallbearers are members of the senior adult men's Sunday School class at Trinity Baptist Church and Gary Pearson.
Funeral service will be at 8:00 p.m. Saturday at the Manes Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tiger Gullett and Rev. Kenny Lloyd officiating. Interment will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the Waters-Large Cemetery.
The family will friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. prior to the service.
