Roena Belle Newton, age 82, of Newport, passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2002 at the home of her daughter, Daisy Crowder. She was a life-long Christian and a member of Transfiguration Lutheran Church in Taylor, MI. She was preceded in death by her husband, George T. Newton, and daughter, Mary Virginia. She is survived by her son, Roger Newton, of Stuart’s Draft, VA; son and daughter-in-law, George M. and Carol Newton, of Knoxville; daughter and son-in-law, Daisy and Charles Crowder, of Newport; daughter and son-in-law, Marjorie and Ernest Lunsford, of Newport; daughter and son-in-law, Geneta and Wayne Parsell, of Detroit, MI; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Pastor David Gamble of Grace Baptist Church will conduct a graveside service at 1 p.m. Friday at the Crowder Cemetery, Del Rio. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery at 12:45 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Grace Baptist Church or Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Newport. Costner-Maloy in charge.
