Nora Ann Johnson Brown Smelcer, age 84, of Newport, went to be with her Savior in the early morning hours of Saturday, January 26, 2002.
Nora was a member of The Church of God Edgemont.
She was preceded in death by her loving husbands, James E. Brown and Ralph Smelcer; parents, Luther and Fannie Johnson; son, Coach Gary Brown; brothers, James L. Newman and Luther Johnson Jr; and two sisters died in infancy.
She is survived by her daughters, Julia Earnestine Bailey, of Lumberton, NC; Earlene Clevenger Frazier, of Newport; son, David W. Brown, of Gatlinburg; special sons-in-law, Rev. Bernie Bailey and Rusty Frazier; brothers, Rev. Robert Johnson of Talbert, Rev. Joe Johnson, of Old Town, FL, Ruble Johnson, of Tampa, FL, George Johnson, of Onida, and Steve Johnson, of Cosby; sisters, Una Rimmer, of Dandridge, Retha Miller, of Dandridge, and Annette Jones, of Newport; 21 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 8 p.m. Sunday at Manes Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. James McFalls officiating, with burial 10 a.m. Monday, January 28, 2002 in Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Manes Funeral Home prior to the funeral.
