MCCARTER, SFC RAY ALTON – age 56, born in Knoxville, passed away at 8:58 a.m. on Thursday, December 19, 2002 at home in Ocala, Florida. Ray was born on February 14, 1946. Ray was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Manassas, Virginia. His childhood church was Burnett’s Creek Baptist Church in Knoxville.
Ray was an SFC of the US Army for 26 years and retired in 1988. As a government civilian, he served as the Chief of the Ft. Leavenworth Transportation Motor Pool for 9 years. Preceded in death by daughter, Sonya Rash; and father, Clarence McCarter.

Ray was a very loving Grandpaw.

Funeral service 7 PM Monday in the West Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Miller officiating. Music by David Whaley. Interment 11 AM Tuesday in Huskey Cemetery with military honors. Pallbearers will be Ray’s Children: Kim Kelley, Ed Moore, LtCol Gregg Moore, TSgt Dallas McCarter, Ray McCarter, Jr., Rev. Bill McCarter.
The family will receive friends 5-7 PM Monday at Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville.
