NICHOLS, CLEVE - 66, Clinton, passed away on December 13, 2006 at St. Mary's Hospice Center after a long and courageous battle with cancer. After earning his Master's Degree from Tennessee Tech in Cookeville, Cleve retired from the Anderson County School System after more than 30 years of service. Cleve worked at Lake City, Clinton and Anderson County High, Clinton Jr. High, ACCOD, and The LEARN Center in the positions of principal, vice-principal, athletic director, golf coach, boy's basketball coach and later moved to the Central Office as Director of Secondary Education. He enjoyed working with the students and made many special friends through the years. He recently was inducted in the Blount County Sports Hall of Fame for his outstanding athletic record at Porter High School in Maryville. His favorite past times were fishing, golfing, camping and building bird houses. He loved his family and held each one near to his heart---especially his 6 grandsons. He was a long time member of Second Baptist Church in Clinton. Preceded in death by: father, John C. Nichols, brother, John Nichols, Jr. Survived by: loving wife of nearly 50 years, Shirley Nichols, Clinton; daughters: Pam Alley and husband Mark, Heiskell, Jan Bieckert and husband Al, Clinton, Patti Andrews and husband Phil, Powell; 6 special grandsons (Jesse and wife Andi, Cody, A.J., Chad, Ben and Brad); mother, Aileen Nichols of Maryville, TN; brothers, Mickey & wife Debbie Nichols, Bob & wife Evelyn Nichols, all of Maryville; special nieces and nephews as well as many special friends. The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 17, 2006 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Second Baptist Church in Clinton, followed by a 8 pm funeral service with Rev. Mike Thompson officiating. The graveside service will be held at Grandview Memorial Gardens on Monday, December 18, 2006 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorials be made to Second Baptist Church Building Fund, 777 Public Safety Dr., Clinton, TN 37716. Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton is in charge of all arrangements.
