Betty Ann Boyd (neé Shell), 67, entered into her eternal rest on January 9, 2016. She was born February 3, 1948, to Anna Jean (Gregg) and Walter Lloyd Shell, Jr. A lifelong resident of Cocke County, Betty Ann was known as a devoted congregation member of the First Christian Church of Newport and through her 42 years of service in the County Trustee’s Office. She passed away suddenly at home. She is preceded in death by an infant son as well as her parents and grandparents. Betty Ann is survived by her husband Ted Boyd, with whom she shared a love of travel and sightseeing with friends. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Angie Renee Hogan and son-in-law Kevin McFadden (Charlottesville, VA); her son Kent Win Hogan (Knoxville); her brother Don Shell, sister-in-law Debbie, nephews Garrett and Gabriel (Knoxville); her sister and best friend Linda Wice and brother-in-law Jason (Newport), her nephew Joshua Wice and his wife Cidney Jade (Newport); her uncle Paul Gregg and his wife Kim (Newport). The family will receive friends at Manes Funeral Home on Thursday, January 14, beginning at 5:00 p.m. with the funeral at 7:00 p.m., with Pastor Martin Stump officiating. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 15 at Union Cemetery. Flowers are welcome, as are donations in Betty’s name to the First Christian Church of Newport or other charitable organizations.
