Cecil D. Gowan, age 85, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 23, 2011, in Kingsport.
He was born and raised in Del Rio, TN and lived most of his life there. For the past 22 years, he had resided with his daughter Joetta and her late husband Dale Atwell in Georgia and Tennessee.
Most of his life was spent gardening, which was his passion, and repairing any kind of small engines. He worked at Stanberry's Machine Shop for over 30 years and then at Brockwell Construction Company.
He was preceded in death by his wife Violet, parents Will and Emma Gowan, sister Mollie Hux, and brother Floyd Gowan.
He is survived by his daughter Joetta Atwell of Kingsport, sons Bobby (Judy) Gowan of Dandridge and Michael (Teresa) Gowan of Inman, SC; special little sister Ruth Maloy of Parrottsville, TN; grandchildren Kenna (Tommy) Blackwell, Mollee (Jeff) Sutherland, Nathan (Audra) Atwell, Wes (Tina) Atwell, Craig Gowan, Brooke (Mike) White, Chad (Heather) Williams, and Bradley Brooks; great-grandchildren Andrew Atwell, Whitney McGill, Ashley Dickey, Leah Hyder, Dillon Sutherland, Coby, Kali, and Ella Atwell, Jason and Derrick Atwell; great-great-grandchildren Payton and Brice Atwell, Haley and Alana Atwell, Jackson and Zachary Williams, Shane Watts, Elijah and Jayden White, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 25, 2011, in the chapel of Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Ernest Sawyer and George Stinnett officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. prior to the services.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 26, 2011, at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
