Surrounded by family and friends at his home in Del Rio, a devoted father and grandfather, Leon Woody age 87, passed from this life to be at home with the Lord at 11:00 p.m., Saturday, May 2, 2009. When he was able, he attended Jones Chapel Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death his parents, Reuben and Sally Kate (Clark) Woody of Sedro Woolley, Washington; brothers Joe Woody of Edinburg, VA., Wiley Woody and Arnold Woody both of Sedro Woolley, Washington; sisters Duss Norwood of Newport, TN., and Bonnie Stokely of Del Rio, TN.
He is Survived by Hester Stokely Woody, His wife of 63 years, and his children; daughters Shirley Grigsby (Monroe) of Newport, TN., Lucille Jenkins (Billy) of Del Rio, TN., Dean Frisby (Lynn) of Marshall, N.C.; son Earl Woody (Kathy) of Del Rio, TN.; sisters May Bell Stokely (Jay deceased) of Del Rio, TN., and Ovella (Homer) Self of Sedro Woolley, WA.; brother Donald Woody (Sis) of Sedro Woolley, WA.; grandchildren Mark and Timothy Grigsby, Missy Jenkins, Lydia Smith (Buster), Melinda Rice (Wayne), Cody Frisby and Pam Willis (Glenn); great-grandchildren Nichole Roberts (Craig), Ashley, Kelly, and Megan Stokely, Justin Smith and Jerrika Willis and one great-great-grandson Eli Roberts. He also leaves behind a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. He will be sadly missed by all who him. He leaves a wonderful legacy of love and friendship and set a beautiful example for his children to follow. A special thank you to Smoky Mountain Home Health and Hospice for the care and love shown during his illness; also for all the prayers and visits from family and friends and the love shown during his time of illness, you are greatly appreciated.
Funeral services will be 8:00 p.m. Monday, May 04, 2009 in the chapel of Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Mel Hawkins officiating. The family will meet at Stokely Cemetery, Del Rio, TN., Tuesday, May 5, 2009 for an 11:00 a.m. interment with Chaplain Scott Gorrell officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday, May 04, 2009 at Brown Funeral Home prior to the service.
