Miss Leah Sharese Thornton, age 25, of Newport, passed away Thursday, April 30, 2015, at Physicians Regional Medical Center in Knoxville.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Newport and a member of The Black Mountain Riding Club. She was an honors graduate of Cocke County High School. She worked as a CNA and also enjoyed riding and training horses and camping.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents Raymond and Hazel Thornton, Irene Cogdill (Barrett) Young and step-grandfather Dave Young, and grandfather Calvin Hugh Barrett.
Survivors include her father Reese Thornton, mother Sharon Leah Barrett, and brother Calvin Raymond Thornton, all of Newport; aunt Betty Barrett (Dempsey) Huston of VA; aunt and uncle Janice (Thornton) and Bill Martin of Michigan; cousins Jessica Huston Stokely and Calvin Aaron Huston, both of Virginia, and Brian (Lisa) Martin, and Jamie Lee Caudill and her children Jesse, Kaylynn, and Lillyanna, all of Newport; Rusty Martin and Ray and (Tresa) Martin and their children Philip and Paige of Michigan, Melissa (Mike) Samluk and their children Kyle, Nathan, Kaylie, and Lila Grace, all of Michigan; and special friends Anna Redmond and her son Dillion of Point Pleasant, Hal Price of Hartford, George Stokely of Del Rio, and Jordan Arrington of Newport, and many other uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends.
The family will hold a memorial service at 7:00 p.m. Sunday, May 3, 2015, at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. James Bennington and Pastor Vaughn Burgin officiating.
The family will receive friends from 5:00—7:00 p.m. Sunday at the church prior to the service.
