William (Bill) 97, passed away peacefully Nov. 17, 2007, in Bountiful, Utah.
Born March 7, 1910, he was a descendent of a Tennessee pioneer family and the son of T.J. and Dovey Mae Spangler Sorrell of Del Rio. Married Telma Iverson, Dec.31, 1934 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Bill enlisted in the Army at age 18 and rose through the ranks to Major in the US Air Force. His distinguished service record includes Squadron Commanding Officer for the training command in Ft. Worth. At wars end, he was Personnel Officer at Nordholz and Lechfield Air Base in Germany, then on to Korea as Contracting Officer for the 2nd Engineering and Construction Group. Reassigned to Japan as a Tribunal Member of the War Crimes Commission. Bill's most satisfying assignment was as Base Commander of Itomi Air Force Base in Japan.
Bill has received many commendations including his most prized from General MacArthur.
He is survived by his son David (Carolyn) Sorrell of Bremerton, WA; daughter-in-law Sherry Spiden; grandsons Eric, John and Evan Sorrell and granddaughter Lori Sorrell. Preceded in death by wife, Telma and son, Michael.
Graveside services will be held 9:30 am, Saturday, Nov. 24, 2007, at the Bountiful City Cemetery, 2224 S. 200 W. Friends may call from 8:15-9:15 a.m. at Lindquist's Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N 400 E. Military honor under the direction of Hill Air Force Base Honor Guard.
