James Alvin Roberts, 89, of Del Rio, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, July 16, 2002 at his residence.
He was a retired farmer and bee keeper. He was a veteran of WWII. He served with the Army’s 84th Infantry Division, nicknamed the “Rail Splitters.” He served the Bronze Star, Ardennes, Rineland, and Central Europe Campaign Ribbons, American Theater Service Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, WWII Victory Medal, the Expert Infantry-man’s Badge and the Combat Infantry-Man’s Badge.
He had attended Fugate Freewill Baptist Church.
His parents, James Amos and Bertha Sawyer Roberts, and daughter, Virginia R. McCampbell, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Daisy Stokely Roberts; daughter and son-in-law, Stella and Tim Lunsford, of Del Rio; granddaughter, Vickie L. Webb, of Newport; grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Tim and Khristy Lunsford, of White Pine; great-grandchildren, Carrie Webb and Will Dalton Lunsford; and son-in-law, Phillip McCampbell, of Knoxville.
Mr. Roberts will also be missed by a host of friends.
Graveside service will be Friday, July 19, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at Jones Town Cemetery with Rev. Earnest Sawyer officiating.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening, July 18, 2002 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home.
Brown Funeral Home has been honored to provide the final arrangements for Mr. James Alvin Roberts.
