Jack Mathis, age 82, of Del Rio passed away peacefully Friday, April 11, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family. Jack retired from Wood Products after 28 years. When he retired Jack enjoyed working outdoors and gardening. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, who will be sorely missed. Preceded in death by his son, Jackie Mathis; granddaughter, Jaclyn Brooke Laws; parents, Russell and Zelma McMahan; brother, Sam (Martha)) McMahan; sisters, Bashie McMahan and Pauline Tolly; and daughter-in-law, Allie Jean Mathis. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Nell Mathis; daughters, Barbara Worley; sons, Ricky (Shera) Mathis and Randy (Tammy) Mathis of Del Rio; daughter, Teresa (Rick) Laws of Newport; special beloved friend, Bill Ottinger; grandchildren, Stephanie and Chad Holt, Travis Worley, Jacob Mathis, Ronald Mathis, Shane Mathis, Jonathon Laws, Brittany Wilson; great grandchildren, Dycson Mathis, Layla Mathis and Colby Pierce; brothers, Chester (Sue) McMahan, Roy McMahan, Grayden (Sarah) Mathis, Creed (Glenda) McMahan, Lester (Geraldine) McMahan; sisters, Lessie (Billy) Winter and Geneva Strom; and a host of nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Smoky Mountain Home Health and Hospice. Funeral services will be held at 7:00 pm Monday, April 14, 2014 at Manes Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bill Murr officiating. Burial will be held at 12:00 pm Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at Stokely Cemetery, Del Rio. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Monday prior to funeral services.
