Samuel Lawson Greene, age 79, of Hartford, died Friday, January 4, 2002, at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center.
He was a member of Black Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.
He was a columnist for the Newport Plain Talk for 44 years. He was a graduate of Cosby High School, and an active member of the Senior Citizen Group of Cocke County.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Issac Milburn Greene and Mary Jane Hensley Greene; sisters, Jettie Baxter and Nettie Ford; and brothers, D.A. Greene and Walter Greene.
He is survived by his brother, Edmund Greene, of Knoxville; sisters, Rachael Wood, of Cosby, and Nellie Romines, of Knoxville; sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Fred Romines, of Knoxville; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. His nephews will be pallbearers.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Manes Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Danny Greene officiating, with burial in the I.M. Greene Family Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Manes Funeral Home.
