Julia Barker Stanbery, age 91 of Maryville, died Tuesday, August 21, 2001, at Royal Care of Pigeon Forge.
A native of Andrews, NC, her family moved to Maryville in 1916. She joined the Methodist Episcopal Church South in 1919, now Broadway United Methodist Church, serving as an active member for over 70 years. She held a Life Membership in the United Methodist Women.
She was a charter member of the Maryville Music Club, also a member of the Blount County Chapter of ``United Daughters of the Confederacy''. When the Auxiliary of Blount Memorial Hospital was organized, she led this committee and served as the first President. She held a life membership in this group. She studied piano and organ with private tutors and at the University of Florida. She shared her talent as piano and organ soloist and accompanist with many churches and community groups for 70 years.
Mrs. Stanbery was preceded in death by her husband, Len G. Stanbery; six brothers; four sisters; and one great grandchild.
She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Vivian Carol and Kent W. Thomas of Kodak, TN and Lenda Gail and H. M. ``Skip'' Parks of Georgetown, TX; four grandchildren and their spouses, Norman Kent and Tammy Thomas of Knoxville, Julia Annice and Dr. Charles Huddleston of Tupelo, MS, Joel Len and Terri Parks of Franklin, TN, Tracy Lee and Richelle Parks of Oklahoma City, OK; 11 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. James A. Dougherty and Rev. Ty Harrison officiating. The interment will follow in Grandview Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 10-11:00 a.m. Saturday at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home, Maryville.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Broadway Methodist Church and designated to either the Altar Guild or ``Frins'', 309 E. Broadway, Maryville, TN 37804.
