Mrs. Ruth Elaine Craven Latham, 71, of Pfafftown, died Friday, Feb. 28, 2003, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
Mrs. Latham was born July 16, 1931, in Davidson County to James Daniel Craven and Minnie Lou Glascoe. She was a graduate of High Point College in 1953 and taught school at Holding Institute in Loredo, Texas. She married M. Alvin Latham on May 2, 1957. She went on to be a rural church and community worker in Eastern Tennessee. Ruth's lifelong dream was to be a missionary in Africa. In 1996 this dream was accomplished. Ruth and Alvin went to Highlands Bible College in Kericho, Kenya, where they taught. Mrs. Latham was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church in Pfafftown.
Survivors: her husband, the Rev. M. Alvin Latham of Pfafftown; 2 daughters, Letha L Burrow of Gibsonville and Michelle Elaine Latham of Winston-Salem; a son, Jonathan Michael Latham and his wife, Jennifer, of South Setauket, N.Y.; 2 grandsons; 2 brothers, Stanton Craven of Thomasville and Bennie Craven of Oak Ridge; and a sister, Treva Nifong of Winston-Salem.
A funeral service was conducted 3 p.m. Monday, March 3, at Fulton United Methodist Church in Advance, with the Revs. Ardis Payne, John Christy, Mark Jensen and Dwight Cartner officiating, with burial following in the church cemetery.
