After nearly 150 years, Parrottsville Civil War casualty Peter Reece will be honored today in a memorial service scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. at Harned Cemetery in Parrottsville. Confederate soldiers hanged Reece after his capture in the St. Tide Hollow area in the early 1860s. Until now his grave has only been marked by a simple fieldstone with no inscription. The Natural Bridge Ruritan Club adopted the project to mark the grave earlier this year. Club president Cheryl Smith said that people may gather at Harned Chapel United Methodist Church at 5:00 and proceed to the cemetery from there.
