Mr. Michael "Mike" Dwayne Benson, age 42, of Cosby, passed away Saturday, October 10, 2009, in Daytona Beach, Florida.
He was preceded in death by his mother June Carol Valentine; Mamaw Jennie Valentine and Papaw Junior Valentine; Granny Susan Benson and Papaw Tom Benson.
He is survived by his daddy Bobby Jack Benson of Madisonville, TN; brother and sister-in-law Robin and Shalee' Benson, of Newport; sister and brother-in-law Sharon and Roger Mathis, of Cosby; nieces and nephews Leshea Carol Mooneyham, Lil' Rob Benson, Hunter "Sissy" Benson, all of Newport; and Kaleb Mathis and Blake Mathis, both of Cosby.
He is also survived by the following aunts and uncles: Ernestine and Lonnie Ledford, Gerald and Reba Valentine, Jeff and Vanessa Valentine, Debbie and Charles Williams, all of Cosby; Tammy and Larry Walker of Morristown; Terry and Wayne Webb, Randall Benson, and Carolyn and Lynn Costner, all of Cosby; Mark Trentham and very special aunt Marilyn Trentham, both of Newport.
Additional survivors include 16 cousins, including special cousin Cassidy Benson of Cosby, and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, October 15, 2009, at Smoky Mountain Full Gospel Church with Rev. Leon Large officiating. The casket will lie in state from 1:30-2:00 p.m. at the church prior to the services.
Interment will be in the Valentine Family Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Deano Valentine, Ronnie Horton, Randall Benson, Randy Evans, Little Buddy Ball, Peewee Brown, Terry Brooks, and Richard Coggins.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-9:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 14, 2009, at Costner-Maloy Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to help pay for final expenses.
