BUDA, CHRISTINA STEPHENS - age 76, of Newport, passed away Wednesday, May 9, 2001, at Select Specialty Hospital in Knoxville. She and her husband were well known throughout the area as the owners of Bill's Restaurant and the Coffee Pot Restaurant. She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Annunciation, where she served on the Altar Guild and the church council. She was a past president of the Clifton Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, William C. (Bill) Buda, and by her parents, Gus and Zoitva Stephens.
She is survived by her children, Bill Buda Jr., and his wife Kay, and Janice Stuart and her husband Charles, all of Newport; grandson, Andy Tippitt and his wife Kim of Maryville, Stephen Tippitt of Johnson City, and Weston Bailey of Newport; granddaughters, Morgan Buda, Meredith Bailey and Malerie Bailey of Newport; great-granddaughters, Kelcey Tippitt of Maryville; sister and brother-in-law, William and Lucille Darden of Johnson City; nephews and their wives, Bill and Caroline Darden, and Steve and Ann Darden, all of Johnson City; great-nephews, Reed and Gus Darden, and great-nieces, Jennifer and Katy Darden of Johnson City, and many dear friends to cherish her memory. Friends may call at the Episcopal Church of the Annunciatin on Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. and from 11 a.m. until. 12 Noon on Friday. Funeral service will be conducted at the church at 12 Noon on Friday, with the Reverends David Garrett, Rowland Clarkson, and Steve Thompson officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Episcopal Church of the Annunciation of Newport or to the Baptist Health Systems Foundation, 101 Blount Ave., Suite 530, Knoxville, TN 37920.
