Virta Henderson, of the Pleasant Grove community, celebrated her 90th birthday on Sunday, Feb. 10, at the Edwina Community Center with friends and family. Henderson, shown in front, is with her sons, from left, Walter and Dewey Henderson, and granddaughter, Karen Christley. Virta is the widow of Otto Henderson. She has three sons, Dewey and Walter Henderson, both of Tennessee, and Lonzo Henderson, of Cleveland, Ohio. She has 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 15 great-great-grandchildren. She has lived in Sevier and Cocke counties her entire life.

Happy 94th birthday!
Virtia Henderson of Edwina celebrated her 94th birthday on Friday, February 10. She is the daughter of the late Calvin and Ellen McMahan and was born in Sevier County. She is the widow of Otto Henderson and the mother of three sons: Alonzo and Walter Henderson, and Dewey Henderson, who is deceased. She has 13 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was honored with a party at the Edwina Community Center.

Virtia L. Henderson, age 95, of Newport, passed away Tuesday, January 7, 2014. She was preceded in death by her husband, Otto Henderson; children, Dewey, Doyle and Alice Henderson.
She is survived by her sons, Alonzo Henderson and Walter Henderson; sister, Vamila “Mikei” Harai all of Newport; several grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
Funeral services will be held 7:00 pm Thursday, January 9, 214 in Manes Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Ransom Hall officiating. Burial will be held 11:00 am Friday, January 10, 2014 in McMillan Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm -7:00 pm Thursday at Manes Funeral Home prior to the funeral service.
