RAMSEY, RAY - age 85 of Blaine passed away Wednesday, August 1, 2007, at UT Medical Center. Ray was born and raised in the Great Smoky Mountains and moved to Grainger County after a great flood in the late 1930s took the family homestead. Growing up in the mountains he learned to work hard for survival. He loved to sing and taught himself to play various musical instruments. He loved the Lord, and he loved to sing about Heaven. He was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church and had attended Indian Ridge Baptist Church the last several years. Ray was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a friend to all who knew him. Preceded in death by wife of 51 years, Vada Ramsey; grandson, Brandon Ramsey; brothers, Clay and Ishmael Ramsey; sisters, Elzie Ramsey and Zelma Lindsey. Survived by sons, Billy Ray Ramsey and wife Linda of Blaine, Charles Ramsey and wife Edith of Rogersville, and Darrell Ramsey and wife Darla of Blaine; daughter, Charlotte Patterson and husband Junior of Blaine; sister, Ernabe Hayes; grandchildren, Rick Patterson and wife Anita, Cindy Ramsey, Michael Ramsey, Brian Patterson, Allen Ramsey, Andy Ramsey and wife Brooke, and Blake Ramsey; great-grandchildren, Alexis, Alyson, and Riley Patterson, and Abbey Trammell; sisters-in-law, Kathryn and Paralee Ramsey, and Virginia Roach and husband Jr. Family and friends will meet 10:30 am Saturday at Bridges Funeral Home and proceed to Grainger Memorial Gardens for an 11:30 am interment.
