March 25, 1930 - August 24, 2012
Age 82, of West Court St., Warsaw, died August 24, 2012 at the East Side Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Warsaw.
He was born March 25, 1930 in Rochester, NY, son of the late Irving and Marion Eunice Wells Parmele. Don was a graduate of Brockport High School. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Education and his Master’s degree in School Administration from the State University of New York at Brockport. Don then spent 35 years in teaching and educational administration before his retirement from Wyoming Central School in 1988.
Don was a long time active member of the United Church of Warsaw where he had served as an elder. He was a member and past president of the Warsaw Kiwanis Club, a member of the Wyoming Hook & Ladder Co. and the Wyoming Hook & Ladder Exempts. He served as a trustee for the Warsaw Public Library for several years, was a founding board member of the Warsaw YMCA and was a member of the Alumni Board at State University of New York at Brockport. Don served as a volunteer with the Wyoming County Office for the Aging and was a former member of the Warsaw Barbershoppers. He enjoyed gardening, socializing and spending time with his family, particularly his five grandsons who were his pride and joy.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Audrey King Parmele; his son, Peter (Joan) Parmele of Cuylerville; his daughters, Susan (John) Mavromatis of East Bloomfield, Beth (Eric) Schafer of Warsaw; his grandsons, Joshua Parmele, Andrew Mavromatis, Tim Mavromatis, Ethan Schafer and Alex Schafer; his sister, Virginia Stockham of Spencerport; several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Friday, August 31 from 2 – 4 & 7 – 9 at Robinson & Hackemer Funeral Home, 246 N. Main St., Warsaw. Don’s funeral service will be held Saturday, September 1 at 11 AM at the United Church of Warsaw (cor. E. Buffalo & S. Main Sts.). Burial will be in Wyoming Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the United Church of Warsaw, 10-22 S. Main St., Warsaw, NY 14569 or Warsaw Public Library, 130 N. Main St., Warsaw, NY 14569.
