He is the son of the late David Smelcer and Nellie Smelcer. He is preceded in death by his wife: Mary Evelyn Smelcer; brother: Eugene Smelcer; and sister: Edith Hicks. Those left behind to cherish his memory include his loving children: Donna Gaye Finley (Lani), Michael Olan Smelcer and Steven Roy Smelcer (Christy); brother: Edward Smelcer; sisters: Odessa Hall and Imogene Shultz; grandchildren: Joshua Finley, Chase Smelcer and Blake Smelcer with many nieces, nephews, and friends. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 20, 2010 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Holly Hill Funeral Home, 431 SW Broad St. Fairburn, GA 30213 770-964-7833. Services honoring Mr. Smelcer will be held in the chapel of the funeral home on Thursday, October 21, 2010 at 2:00pm with Rev. Norman Smelcer officiating.
