(January 22, 1937 - April 5, 2010) U.S. Veteran Garnie Miller, Jr., age 73, pf Newport, passed away April 5, 2010 after a lengthy illness. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of the Northport Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Garnie and Stella Miller; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joe and Cora Wilson. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Betty Miller; son, Mike Miller and five grandchildren, Erik Miller and wife Ashley, Russell Miller, Kris Miller and Patience Layman and Lindsey Frelix; and one great grandson, Skyler Grant of Dalton, Georgia; one brother, Carroll Miller and wife Faye; one sister, Debbie Gregg; and three nieces, Cindy Moyers, Kim Wood and Rebecca McGaha; his special friend Gunner Walker and special companion, his little dog “Buddy”. Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Wednesday, April 7, 2010 in Manes Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Scott Gorrell and Pastor Wade Holbrook officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, with military honors. The family will receive friends from 7-9 pm Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at Manes Funeral Home. Manes Funeral Home in charge.
