GARNER, GEORGE WEBB - age 86 of Maryville, passed away Monday, February 7, 2005, at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was a member of Maryville First United Methodist Church and the Shields Sunday School Class for more than 50 years. After attending Maryville College where he played football and baseball, he joined the local National Guard in 194l, serving for 5 years. He was a Sgt. in the U. S. Army during World War II serving with Battery C of the 191st Field Artillery Battalion in the European Theater. He was owner/operator of College Cleaners and retired from Burris Realty.
He was preceded in death by: his wife, Frances B. Garner; father and stepmother, George C. and Nelle E. Garner; mother, Georgia Webb Hill; brother, M. A. Garner.
Survivors include: daughters, Denice Garner of Maryville, Marcia Garner of Friendsville; son and daughter-in-law, Murray and Jane Ann Garner of Houston, TX; grandsons, William and Adam Garner; sister, Louise Garner; sister-in- law and brother-in-law, Helen and Bob Runion; sisters-in- law, Miriam Bowditch, Lib Bowditch; several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will meet at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Grandview Cemetery for a military graveside service with Rev. Dan Moore officiating. Military honors will be provided by the East Tennessee Veterans Honor Guard. Friends may call at their convenience at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home, Maryville. Honorary Pallbearers will be: members of the Shields Sunday School Class and members of the 191st Field Artillery Battalion. Active Pallbearers will be: grandsons, nephews and nephews-in-law.
