NEWPORT-After receiving her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Tennessee (UT) in May 2007, and recently passing the bar exam and being licensed, a young attorney has begun practicing with her father in Newport.
Charlotte Ann Leibrock, the daughter of Bill and Charlotte Leibrock, is now practicing with her father in their office at 339 East Main Street near the Cocke County Courthouse.
"I always thought being a lawyer might be a good way to make a living," said Leibrock. "I had never ruled out being an attorney, but I had not decided to be an attorney until after graduate school."
Born and raised in Newport, she received a bachelor's degree in agriculture from UT, graduating magna cum laude.
She went on to receive her Master of Science degree from UT in agricultural business.
Leibrock said she initially thought about attending veterinary school because of her interest in animals.
"I love animal husbandry," she said. "I love farming, and I love this area where we live."
After earning her master's degree, she said she asked herself, "What's next? I felt like I wasn't finished."
It was at that point she chose to go to law school.
"You can do an infinite number of things with a law degree, even if you don't want to practice law," she explained.
Although her father is an attorney, she admits his career had no impact on her career choice. She had never even seen her father in the courtroom until last summer, when she came home to study for the bar exam.
"I thought he did a great job in court," she said.
"I feel law is a great career and it is a great time to start practicing here in the Newport area," she said. "My colleagues have been so nice and helpful. My fellow attorneys are willing to offer advice."
In her spare time, she enjoys reading and working with animals. She raises Angus cattle on the family farm.
She attends Holy Trinity Lutheran Church with her family.
Leibrock is now accepting clients. She is a general practice attorney, which handles legal matters such as Chapter 7 bankruptcies, criminal law, civil law, divorce and family law, property and real estate, accidents and personal injury. "I am so excited to be here practicing law in my community.
I feel this is a way I can finally give back to a community that has given so much to me," she concluded.
