William David Scarlett, 83, of Sevierville passed away Friday, September 2, 2016. He was born March 3, 1933 in Sevier County. William proudly served in the United States Army. He had a distinct work ethic to be admired and was a life-time farmer. In the earlier years, he brought Santa Gertrudis cattle to the county and raised tobacco. He was also employed at Cherokee Textile Mill for 48 years. William was always working with his hands whether he was out on the farm or enjoying his passion for welding and metal work. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Alfred Scarlett and Lola Mae Scarlett; and his sisters, Shirley Myers and Beatrice Lowe.
William is survived by his wife, Betty Sue Scarlett; daughters and sons-in-law, Jama Scarlett Lancaster and Mark Lancaster, Davana Scarlett Greenamyer and Brad Greenamyer; grandchildren, Ashley, Michael, Hanna, and Lauren Lancaster; brother, Luther B. Scarlett; and sister, Penny Scarlett.
The family will receive friends from 11 AM to Noon Friday, September 9th with the service to follow at Noon in the East Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville. Rev. Bobby Wright will be officiating. Interment to follow the service at Deep Springs Cemetery. Online condolences may be made at www.atchleyfuneralhome.com
