U.S. Veteran Dale Phillips, born July 22, 1939, went to be with the Lord, May 22, 2011 at the VA Hospital in Johnson City, TN after a brief illness. He was retired from the Savannah River Plant in Aiken, S.C. He was preceded in death by his father, Rev. Kermit Phillips and mother Viola Phillips; sons Lee “Bo” Phillips and Pal Phillips; grandson Mickey Lee Phillips; sister-in-law Ruth Bradley and brother-in-law Bill Fain. He is survived by his wife, Margaret (Pat) Phillips; grandson Andy Phillips; sister Brenda Reese (Buddy) of Coldwater, MS; niece, Amy Gann (Tim) of Charleston, S.C.; nephews, Rev. Glenn Bradley (Gail), Bert Bradley (Jena), Chet Bradley (Janene), Ray Fain (Gloria), Terry Fain; and sister-in-law, Nora Fain; also several cousins and grand nephews and nieces. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1956-1964, serving 2 tours of duty. He was in two US Expeditionary Forces; Lebanon in 1958 and Cuba (Bay of Pigs and the Cuban Missile Crisis) in 1961 to 1962. Dale was a Veterans of Foreign Wars lifetime member. His passion was music, guitar playing and singing. He loved gospel and bluegrass music, having played with several different groups in numerous states, and had cut many records and CD's. Three of his favorite musicians to make music with were Dave Goldman, Grover Wilson and Dennis Suber. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm, Wednesday, May 25, 2011 in Manes Funeral Home Chapel, with the funeral service to follow at 8:00 pm, with Rev. Gary Ball officiating. Interment will be 11:00 am, Thursday, May 26, 2011 at Union Cemetery with military honors. Family and friends may sign the guest register on line at: www.manesfuneralhome.com.
