Holt, age 81, of Newport, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 30, 2014 at Tennova (St. Mary’s) Hospital in Knoxville. Saved as a young boy, he had been a member of Liberty Hill Missionary Baptist Church for almost seventy years. Having served for fifty years as a deacon, he was the oldest and longest serving deacon of the church. He had also served as song leader for many years. He retired from Berkline in 1995 after 42 years of employment with the company. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mose and Nellie (Legg) Holt, sister, Gladys Buckner, infant brother, Willard Holt, and daughter-in-law, Rita Ann Holt. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Wanda Faye Holt; sons, Gary Dale (Kathy) Holt, David Holt, Michael (Lesa) Holt, Patrick (Jennifer) Holt; grandchildren, Amanda (J.W.) Hale, Anthony (Amanda) Holt, Heather (Chad) Williams, Candace (Travis) Grimmer, Mariah Holt, Lindsey Holt, Logan Holt, Lucas Holt, Lance Holt, and Leah Holt; step-grandchildren, Sheila (Roy) Shults, Stephanie (Scott) Erickson, and Amanda (Norman) Price; sisters-in-law, Roella Holt, Mrs. Alvin (Willie Jean) Holt, and Mrs. Edwin (Estelle) Holt; 15 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at Liberty Hill Missionary Baptist Church on Sunday, November 2, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Robert Samples and the Rev. Robert Green officiating. The family will receive friends at Liberty Hill Baptist Church on Saturday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service.
