Mr. James Earl Shoemaker, age 88 of Newport passed away, November 26, 2009 at his home after several months of illness.
He was a member and deacon of Three in One Baptist church. Mr. Shoemaker was a World War II United States Army Veteran.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen Shoemaker; three sons, Ernest, Chester, and Charles Shoemaker, and his second wife, Eunice Shoemaker; brothers, Sanford Shoemaker and Ulas Shoemaker.
Mr. Shoemaker is survived by his son, John P. Shoemaker of Newport; seven grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Horace and Johnnie Shoemaker of Camern, N.C.; additional survivors include eight step-children; daughter-in-law, Sue Shoemaker; several nieces, nephews, cousins and a special friend, Deanna Phillips.
Funeral services will be held 8 p.m. Sunday, November 29, 2009 in the Costner-Maloy Funeral Home Chapel with Preacher Ricky Dennis officiating.
Family and friends will meet at 12:45 p.m. Monday at the Open Door Church Cemetery for the 1 p.m. interment. Military honors will be provided at the graveside by the Tennessee Army Honor Guard.
Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Sunday evening, November 29, 2009 at the Costner-Maloy Funeral Home.
Jeffery Phillips, Buddy Charles Mack, Pollis Mack, Charlie Decuz, Brad Marler, Tommy Doutt, and Darrell Jenkins will serve as pallbearers.
