Betty Jean McCarter, age 77, of Gatlinburg, passed away Saturday, February 26, 2011. Betty was a lifelong resident of Sevier County and worked at the historic Mountain View Hotel. Afterwards, she worked with her husband at Jim McCarter’s Plumbing and Excavation Co.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Louis and Hettie Whaley; brothers and sisters, Earl Whaley, Ada Clinton, Hazel Headrick, Mary Williams, Hassel Huskey, Ray Whaley, and Katie Parton; grandsons, Rodney Watson and Michael Moore.
Survivors include her loving and devoted husband of 58 years, Jim McCarter; children, Barbara McCarter, Sandi Zapasnik, Debbie Doubles, and Jerry McCarter; grandchildren, Melanie Fleming, Christine Moore, Brandon and Tiffani McCarter, Isaiah McCrary and Zack Zapasnik; great-grandchildren, Kelci, Kendra, Kylie, and Kenzi Fleming, Kymbree Moore, Whitney Johnson and best friend, Jean Cole.
The family will receive friends 5-7 PM Tuesday with a funeral service to follow at 7 PM in the West Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home with Rev. Melvin Carr and Rev. Lowell Wilson officiating.
