Betty Ford Hall, beloved mother, grandmother and wife, passed away at her home of forty years on Hannon Road. We mourn our loss but rejoice in her home-going after suffering the debilitating affects of ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease). She never complained or questioned, “why” she suffered from this disease. Her strong Christian faith sustained her through the difficult trials as she progressively lost her physical abilities. Her ongoing prayer was that God would make her a blessing to someone and he surely answered the prayer through her positive outlook and precious smile in the midst of great difficulty. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy (Bevo) Ford, a longtime Tennessee Department of Transportation State inspector who passed away on February 11, 1990. They were both very involved with the Newport Rescue Squad and Crewettes for many years. She was also preceded in death by her parents: Ed and Virgie Sutton; brothers, Carl and Cleo Sutton and her sister and brother-in-law, Jimmy and Bobbie Sutton Allen. Her father and mother-in-law Gladys and Georgia Mae Ford and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Lynn Ford, Marlene Ford Campbell and Charlene Ford, also predeceased her. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Debbie and Dean Shults, Trudy and Jimmy Arrowood and Wayne and Jayne Ford all of Newport. She is also survived by the love and joy of life; her four grandchildren, who adored her. They are Kurt and Brittany Shults, Rusty Shults, Kinsley Ford and Keelan; step-grandchildren, Cindy Bright, Shana Cyrus and step-great grandson, Gavin Bright. In 1998, she met and married Rev. Ransom Hall assuming the role of a pastor’s wife. His love for her was evident through the care he provided during her final years and remains to mourn her passing. His children are Audry Miller, Shelia Simpson, Noveline Sneed, Treva Shropshire; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; one great great-grandchild. Special thanks for their care his grandchildren Jennifer and Emily McGaha. She attended Pigeon Valley Baptist Church, where Ransom is pastor, until her health no longer permitted and loved her church family there. She is also survived by her brothers, Steve (Elaine) Sutton of Morristown and Tommy Sutton of Newport. Her surviving brothers and sisters-in-law are William (Bill) Ford, Vivian Ford of Newport and Linda Ford Sharp of Knoxville. Many nieces and nephews and cousins will also fondly remember her. A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Thomas Conway and his staff for her care. Thank you also to her niece Mona Sutton for her care, nurses and therapists and the staff of Smoky Mountain Home Health & Hospice who helped her through the trails of the disease. The compassionate care she received from all these medical professionals will always be appreciated. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 pm Sunday, December 14, 2014 at Union Cemetery with Rev. Don Adams officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm to 2:30 pm at Manes Funeral Home Chapel prior to graveside service. Family and friends may sign the guest register online at www.manesfuneralhome.com Manes Funeral Home in charge.
