Back-to-back days of 70s started the week and tempted me to stay outside. It helped to have to assist in making calls on folks who were eager to be our partner in the Newspaper in Education program. On Tuesday I shot out north on Hwy. 321 having heard of the gas utility moving a large pipeline. This work is being done to facility construction of the new highway. Yes, work began near Salem community. Doug doesn’t live to far from Hwy. 321 near the county line. I stopped and saw two Jefferson-Cocke County Gas Utility workers and recognized Bryan Miller and Russell Blazer. The utility is relocating thousands of feet of large gas line in preparation for the new highway. Bryan is from Jefferson City but does have some roots here, which I will tell you about. His wife, Libby Miller, works at Carson-Newman College. He has been with the utility for seven years and told me that his great grandmother was a member of the Byrd family from here. Russell works in engineering and has been with JCCUD for six years. He is married to the former Beth Gilland, who works at First Tennessee in Morristown. You know him as the son of Cocke County Director of Schools Larry Blazer and wife, Phyllis Blazer.
