Mr. Charles Henry Sweeten Sr., age 78 of Newport passed away Thursday evening April 22, 2010 at the Baptist Convalescent Center. Mr. Sweeten was a retired landscaper. He was a United States Army veteran having served during the Korean conflict. He was preceded in death by his wife Shelby Sweeten; parents, Homer Sweeten and Madge Strickler Sweeten and his brother, Jack Sweeten. Mr. Sweeten is survived by his children, Karen Francis and Rodney Hartsell of Dandridge, Kristie and Bob Somers of Crestview, Florida, Charles Sweeten Jr. and Sammy Dobbins of Knoxville, and Scott Sweeten of Newport; grandchildren, Clair Francis of Dandridge, Jacob Somers of Florida, Montana Francis and Madison Williams both of Newport; uncle and aunt, Frank and Bernice Stickler of Newport; additional survivors include his extended family the residents and staff at the Baptist Convalescence Center of Cocke County and the staff of Smoky Mountain Home Health and Hospice. Also, very special friends Jabo and Tammy Francis of Newport and his beloved dog Maggie. Funeral services will be held 8 p.m. Saturday, April 24, 2010 at the Costner-Maloy Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplin Mike Sledge and Chaplin Glenn Bradley officiating. Family and friends will meet at 12:45 p.m. Sunday at Resthaven Memorial Gardens for the 1 p.m. interment service. Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday evening at Costner-Maloy Funeral Home. Arrangements by Costner-Maloy.
