Sylvester Ford, age 81, went to be with the Lord, Friday, March 10, 2006 in Baptist Hospital of Cocke County. Mr. Ford was a WWII veteran serving in the United States Marine Corps and was awarded the Purple Heart Medal for wounds received on Iwo Jima Island, Volcano Islands. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rufus and Rachel Ford; and sister, Edith Fox. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Dean Runyan Ford of Newport; son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Treva Ford of Newport; daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Jim Frazier of Newport; grandsons, Tony Ford and wife Wendy of Newport, Jimmy (Butch) Fralix and wife, Melinda of Franklin, TN; three great grandchildren, Kirsten Fralix, Lauren and Chandler Ford; brothers, Jerry Ford and wife Rita, Bob Ford and wife Caroyln, Bill Ford and wife Brenda; sisters, Edna Crum, Dorothy Runyan, Martha Ford, Grace James and husband Oscar, Judy Holt and husband Tommy; brother-in-law, R. C. Fox all of Newport; and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held, 8:00 pm Monday, March 13, 2006 in Manes Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Wayne Waycaster and Rev. Fred Cagle officiating. Burial will be 11:00 am Tuesday, March 14, 2006 in Resthaven Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Monday at Manes Funeral Home prior to the funeral services.
